A small monument remains here to commemorate the name of Chongsun Gu Jong-myeong, the last police officer of the Korean Empire. On the front of the monument, "Chongsun Gujongmyeong Small Bulmangbi" is engraved. Koo Jong-myeong was a police officer belonging to the police station, and his position at the time was Chongsun. Since its opening in 1897, large and small disputes have frequently occurred between Japanese and Koreans in Mokpo. This character Koo Jong-myeong, as Chong-soon at the time, took the lead for Koreans whenever disputes between Japanese and Koreans occurred, and on behalf of Koreans without legal knowledge, collected necessary data for trial and submitted it to the court. It is a relic that shows the social image of Mokpo at the time of the construction of the monument in 1906. On the other hand, Life King is listed in the Pro-Japanese Dictionary with a career as governor of Japanese colonial era, showing the irony of history.
