The Citizen Bell is located at the foot of Nojeokbong Peak in Yudalsan Mountain. The upper part of the bell supporting the bell is decorated with a bamboo-shaped sound tube in accordance with the traditional style and the ring of the dragon pattern that escorts it. Mugunghwa, which symbolizes 80 million gallstones, is decorated on the counterpart of the bell, and magnolia, the poetry of Mokpo, is decorated on the lower stage, which means civic harmony.
On the outside, a biwa tree, a tree of Mokpo-si, is carved, symbolizing Mokpo. Finally, the bell is symbolically engraved with a pattern called Bichonsang (Yowonsang), but three cranes symbolizing Mokpo, or Samhak, are carved to express the spirit and desire of Mokpo-si, expressing the locality as a whole.
The bell has a religious meaning, but given that it is generally a medium that informs the time, the current place where the citizen's bell is located is where Opodae, the main point that informs noon, was located in the past, and its location characteristics are interesting.
To commemorate the new 21st century, the Civil Bell was planned and promoted in 1998 as a project to commemorate the departure of the new millennium in Mokpo City, and on October 1, 2000, it was completed in three years and was installed next to Nojeokbong Peak of Yudalsan Mountain.
In fact, at the time of the discussion, Mokpo City was strongly opposed to the waste of budget, but it was selected as the best city in 1999 to pray for peaceful inter-Korean reunification and East-West harmony, and to leave Mokpo as a symbolic starting point for National Route 1 and 2.
The total weight is 21 tons, 2m 29cm in diameter, and 3m 90cm in length, and it was produced and designed by Seoul National University's Joint Institute for Precision Mechanical Design, and the body of the bell is engraved with the letters of Yeocho Kim Eung-hyun, who is famous as a calligrapher. And Jonggak's signboard was written by the late former President Kim Dae Jung.
The characteristic of Mokpo's Millennium Citizen's Bell is that the bamboo-shaped sound tube and the ring of the dragon pattern that escorts it according to the traditional style, which originated from the folk tale of Manpasik in Samguk Yusa. The counterpart of the bell's body (the legendary flute of Silla, which solves all the worries and worries of the country) decorated the Mugunghwa symbolizing 70 million lines, and the lower pattern was decorated with a white magnolia, a painting by Mokpo, to express civic harmony. In addition, the round papilla is decorated with mugunghwa, symbolizing the patriotism of the people of the country (peaceful and comfortable for the people), and the square-shaped papilla surrounding the papilla is carved with Bipa tree, a tree of Mokpo-si. Finally, the design of the wish statue (generally the Bichon statue) is characterized by the local characteristics of three cranes, which symbolize the spirit and desire of Mokpo City, flying vigorously.
The traditional role of the bell was 28 bells, 7 times each in the east, west, north, and south, in the sense of symbolizing the curfew (10 p.m.), and vice versa, 33 times in the paru (around 4 a.m., around 4 a.m.) In the case of Boshingak, since it has been used since the Joseon Dynasty to inform the time, it has been ringing the New Year's Eve bell 33 times, and it also symbolizes 33 national leaders who read the March 1 Declaration of Independence. However, it is customary to type 21 times because the Mokpo Citizen Bell was made to symbolize the hope of the 21st century.

It's good to hear the sound of the New Year's bell without having to go all the way to Bosingak in Seoul!
