Mokpo Modern History Museum 2 (formerly Mokpo Branch, Dongyang Cheoksik Co., Ltd., built in 1921)
For us, the past century has been a period of turbulence and turbulence, a time of confusion in which sorrow and joy intersected countless times.
In unpredictable circumstances, people, as well as cities, would suddenly emerge and decline. What did Mokpo, Hangdo, look like 110 years ago? The answer is in the Mokpo Museum of Modern History.
The Mokpo Modern History Museum retains the style of modern Western architecture, and is one of the remaining two Oriental Chuksik Co., Ltd. as an empirical relic of the Japanese invasion that evokes awareness of Korean history, and is ahead of its size in Busan. In addition, in terms of architectural history, it is an important material that helps a lot in the study of modern architectural techniques.
Dongyang Cheoksik Co., Ltd. was the spearhead of colony of Japanese Imperialism's governance policy as a leading institution of Japanese colonial policy and Joseon farmers' exploitation institution, and especially, the Mokpo branch in Dongchuk was the most important point along with the Sariwon branch.
As a result of checking so far, the branches of the South Korean region have only Busan in addition to Mokpo, and the size of the Busan building is smaller than Mokpo. Considering that the building at the Dongchuk branch of Busan has been used by the American Cultural Center and returned, the Busan Metropolitan Government is discussing how to make it a museum, the Dongchuk Mokpo branch has a great meaning.
Therefore, the Dongchuk Mokpo branch building is a representative exploitation institution under the Japanese colonial rule, and there is no Dongchuk building among the designated cultural properties, and it is larger than the remaining Dongchuk building in Busan, and it is worth using as an educational space as a relic symbolically expressed in modern buildings.
