Gatbawi, designated as Natural Monument No. 500, is a rock that looks like two people standing side by side wearing satgat, and is a molten tuff rock with volcanic ash hardened about 80 million years ago.
In the past, Gatbawi, which was only seen by boat, was installed on the sea with a pedestrian bridge that allows you to directly view from the sea, so you can see it more closely.
It is a scene where the last light of the sunset is poured on the rocks of Ipamsan Mountain, which is in the form of a large gat, and the scenery of the sad legend Jungbawi Rock, Ipamsan Mountain, and Yeongsangang River, are harmonized to create a beautiful sunset color.
The reason why the unique shape was formed is because it was located where seawater and freshwater meet, so when waves or fogs on the rock surface, it was wet with salt-containing water and dried countless times, and the dissolved part was relaxed and lowered in strength, forming honeycomb-shaped weathering blood. It is also said that Satgat faces southeast because it is affected by the sun.
Gatbawi is a sculpture created by nature that excludes artificial factors, and it is an interesting and beautiful natural learning center because it has a rare property that is difficult to find in other regions' weathering blood.
